In the exhibition MUTUAL Nina Laaf explores how forms, colors and materials meet, influence or elude one another. The works trace a delicate web of interdependencies in which everything is connected without becoming fully defined. Laaf is interested in systems, their orders and disruptions, and in the fragile balance between stability and movement. Her sculptures translate human interactions into spatial constellations: elements touch or keep distance, hold or shift.

In works such as Schwalbe, Shaped Orchid or False Friends, this interplay appears as a dialogue of opposites. Organic lines meet precise surfaces, gloss meets matte, curve meets edge. Repetition and variation create subtle shifts, an oscillation between the familiar and the unknown. MUTUAL forms an open system in which each part gains meaning through relation yet remains autonomous. Laaf asks how closeness can arise without appropriation and how contact is possible without loss.

The materials behave toward one another like people: they respond, they hold, they let go. In this balance of dependence and freedom lies the quiet poetry of MUTUAL, a spatial translation of how we encounter one another.
