Julia Eichlers works explores the interplay and dissonance between perception and reality, with a focus on architecture. Using a specially developed molding process that employs papier-mâché as the base material, the surfaces of architectural elements are reproduced. This technique makes it possible to cast, utilize, archive, and preserve surfaces in their texture, tactile quality, color, history, and layering. Walls are skinned. Wall skins are reassembled into imaginary building structures that appear massive, heavy, and real, yet there seems to be a flaw in the system. Her working method produces objects that could be described as glitches – as errors in reality, as shifts and breaks in it.
