berlin ist keine höhle
4.7.–29.8. 2015

opening: 4.7. 2015   6 – 9 pm
introduction: Prof. Axel Heil – Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe

Lindau’s paintings condense human impulses into political interpreted perceptions, metaphysical considerations and a pictorial language that draws on the means feasible by the ideas of man. It is painting as a summons of an archetype, an assurance and simultaneous release in the action. Elementary experiences, the artist as medium, as a semi-permeable membrane, through which the „image“ is built up as an opposite, always aware of the promises of the current appearance.

With „Berlin ist keine Höhle“ („Berlin is not a cave“), Lindau raises an association in early 2015, which may sound arbitrary, or at least far-fetched. Plato’s Cave, Rothko’s Chapel, Diogenes in his tub or Hotei in his habit – everything is still possible. Most paintings shown in this exhibition, are in that moment to be perceived loosely. Many of Lindau’s work do not reach their final state until shortly before their presentation to the public. For Lindau, closure means „Last Loosening“; for him Serner is concept and agenda. A finale that isn’t one, a paradox that always provokes and triggers surprises and unbelievable twists.
