das runde muss ins eckige
galerie burster, karlsruhe
opening: 13.1. 2018 3 – 8 pm
We are delighted to announce the opening of galerie burster Karlsruhe. In addition to our gallery space at Kurfürstendamm 213 in Berlin, we will now regularly be presenting exhibitions at Baumeisterstraße 4 in Karlsruhe.
And we are very pleased to open our space with a solo exhibition by Alex Feuerstein Das Runde muss ins Eckige: Feuerstein (*1981 in Heidelberg, based in Karlsruhe, Germany) graduated in 2013 as a master student of Prof. Erwin Gross at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, Germany.
The compositions of his paintings – he mostly works with oil, pigments and resin on a wooden canvas – depict abstracted moments, oscillating between fiction and reality. Profane, daily scenes merge into dream-like sequences and are distorted just up to that point where nothing can clearly be classified, neither locally nor temporarily: Is the scene outside the window showing an interior or exterior view? Is it the sun shining there – or is it the moon? And is the bizarre creature swirling around the picture motif soaring smoke or maybe even human bowel?
Weirdly bended, human bodies merge seamlessly to soft, organic forms which at the same time fuse with their surrounding – through the interdependence of subjects and objects, Feuerstein creates his very own floating rhythm of an almost querulent visual vocabulary offering us numerous personal possibilities for interpretation.
